Retired Army Major General Peter Franklin Joins Raytheon; Former MDA Deputy Director to Lead Missile Defense Strategic Business Area

    TEWKSBURY, Mass., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Missile Defense Agency
(MDA) Deputy Director Peter C. Franklin has joined Raytheon Integrated Defense
Systems as vice president of Raytheon's Missile Defense Strategic Business
Area (SBA). Franklin will focus on achieving an integrated view of Raytheon's
vast missile defense capabilities, creating total missile defense solutions
for complex missions, and stimulating the company's efforts to capture new
missile defense business.
    Operating from Raytheon offices in Tewksbury, Mass., and Arlington, Va.,
Franklin's responsibilities include understanding and defining warfighter
needs and developing and assessing potential total solutions. Franklin will
report to Dan Smith, president of Integrated Defense Systems and will work
closely with missile defense product line vice presidents across Raytheon.
    Missile Defense is one of Raytheon's four strategic business areas.
Initiated in 2002, the SBAs enable Raytheon to align itself more closely with
its customers, position the company for growth, and facilitate greater agility
and speed in responding to customer needs.
    Franklin retired from the U.S. Army as a major general in 2003, concluding
a distinguished 33-year career in service to his country. Prior to joining
Raytheon, Franklin served as the deputy director for the Missile Defense
Agency, where he advised the director and acted on his behalf in managing,
directing and executing the U.S. Missile Defense Program. His previous
assignments include deputy for Systems Management, Assistant Secretary of the
Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology; commander, U.S. Army
Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command; assistant deputy for Systems
Management, Secretary of Army Staff; and executive officer for the Army's
Space and Strategic Defense Command. Franklin commanded various air defense
units with Patriot, Stinger, Chaparral, Hawk Vulcan and Redeye systems through
brigade level.
    Franklin holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master's degree in guided
weapons systems engineering from the British Royal Military College of
Science.
