Troubleshooters franchise, owned by Luis Arriaga, was recently selected as the
Minority Technology Firm of the Year Award by the Northwest Indiana Minority
Business Opportunity Committee.
Arriaga, who serves small-business and residential clients in East
Chicago, Whiting, and Hammond, received the award last week. He launched his
Computer Troubleshooters USA franchise in January 2002. The company provides a
full range of computer services, including repair, networking and upgrading --
basically whatever needs done -- at the customer's location.
Since starting his Computer Troubleshooters franchise, Arriaga has been
devoted to providing affordable services to the clients who live in the
low- to middle-class area he serves.
"I'm not doing it to get rich," Arriaga said. "It's satisfying to help out
when I can."
Arriaga said there is sometimes as much as a $20-an-hour increase in the
price of computer services 25 minutes away in downtown Chicago. He often won't

remedy -- a child who accidentally removes a file or program or forgot a
password.
