CHICAGO, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Endorex Corporation (Amex: DOR) is a
development stage biotechnology company based in the Chicago area. The
mission of Endorex is to become one of the most creative and productive drug
development companies providing a vital link between biotech discovery and
biotech commercialization.
Our new management team includes executives with extensive pharmaceutical,
biotech, vaccine and financial expertise. Michael Rosen, President & CEO, has
spent 22 years with Monsanto, Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb in business
development and management.
Endorex has diversified its product development risk by focusing on oral
drug delivery, a platform technology, and novel cancer therapy, focusing on a
few high potential products.
Focusing first on oral delivery where our goal is "No More Needles."
Many therapies today can only be administered through injection. This is
because if given orally, the drug is destroyed by stomach acids and rendered
ineffective. Our technology, the Orasome(TM) technology, is based on
liposomes, which are polymerized or hardened to pass through the stomach with
the encapsulated drug in tact.
The Orasome(TM) technology was developed at MIT and in-licensed by the
Company with exclusive worldwide rights. A U.S. patent was recently issued
and others are pending. The Orasome(TM) technology was invented by Dr. Robert
Langer, one of the leading academics in drug delivery today.
The human vaccine market is a $4 billion market, yet 96% of vaccines are
only available by injection. Endorex has teamed up with Elan Corporation, the
largest drug delivery company in the world, and formed a joint venture called
Innovax to develop oral delivery systems for vaccines.
In the last 25 years, traditional cancer therapy such as surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy, has not significantly increased survival rates for
cancer patients. Endorex is focusing on two areas of novel cancer therapy.
The first is immuno-therapy, which stimulates the body's own immune system to
fight cancer. The second, natural chemotherapy, is based on monoterpenes
which are cancer-fighting compounds found in plants. The Company has two
drugs in four Phase II human clinical trials and additional trials are being
considered.
The Company recently initiated common stock trading on the American Stock
Exchange, under the symbol "DOR." We have 17 employees, including 8PhDs and
1 MD. Our annual burn rate is $4.1 million.
