STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- C-COR.net (Nasdaq: CCBL)
announced today that the Company is part of a successful team bid, in
partnership with Siemens ICN, a division of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), to upgrade
cable networks for Kabel Hessen GmbH & Co. KG, owner and operator of the cable
television network in the German province of Hessen. The contract, signed
with iesy, Kabel Hessen's new umbrella brand for its network's voice, video
and data services, covers the first stage of upgrades in Hessen. The contract
also provides for negotiations on future phased-in network expansion
throughout the Hessen region.

During the first phase of the project, scheduled for completion by June
2002, the existing 450 MHz coaxial cable network will be upgraded to a
bi-directional 862 MHz HFC (hybrid fiber coaxial) broadband network supporting
a variety of advanced services, such as interactive and digital TV, high-speed
Internet access, and IP telephony. Once implemented, services on the new
network will be available to approximately 100,000 subscribers. C-COR will
supply headend optical products, fiber optical nodes, and amplifiers for the
upgrade project. Siemens will be responsible for the management and system
integration functions of the project.
C-COR equipment used in the Hessen network upgrade will include
I-Flex(R) II Nodes and Bridger Amplifiers; and lumaCOR(TM) 3RU Universal
Chassis, 1310 nm DFB Optical Transmitters, 1550 nm Externally Modulated
Optical Transmitters, 1550 nm Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs),
1310/1550 nm Optical Dual Return Path Receivers, and 1310/1550 nm Optical
Redundant Forward Path Receivers. Both the I-Flex and lumaCOR product lines
provide the high-performance and modularity needed for today's advanced fiber
optic transmission and distribution systems. In addition, C-COR will provide
the network with an element management system compatible with the emerging HMS
(Hybrid Management Sub-Layer) industry standard.
