PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Portico Systems, the leader in
Provider Network Operations solutions, announced today that Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) has selected Portico(R) NPI to facilitate
compliance with the National Provider Identifier (NPI) as mandated by the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. BCBSMA
represents the fifth large Blue Cross Blue Shield plan to date that is
implementing the Portico NPI solution. Portico Systems and EDS are
implementing Portico(R) NPI for BCBSMA.

the plan's transaction processing to utilize these new identifiers. Portico

address the universe of the plan's contractual agreements with its
providers. In addition, Portico NPI enables plans to minimize the
significant costs associated with remediation of its legacy applications,
including claims engines and provider data systems, required to achieve NPI
compliance.
