First of Its Kind to Meet Only RFID Item Management Standard
EVERETT, Wash., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermec Technologies Corp. today
introduced a new handheld scanner that reads bar codes and reads and programs
RFID (radio frequency identification) tags. The Sabre 1555 simplifies data
collection by eliminating the need to have multiple scanners for multiple
technologies.
It is the first product of its kind to meet the only approved RFID item
management standard, ANS NCITS 256-1999.
Built to withstand the harshest environments, the 1555 incorporates a
laser scan engine for reliable bar code scanning up to 90cm and an RFID
interrogator, operating at either 2450 MHz or 915 MHz frequency ranges, for
RFID read ranges of up to two meters. The interrogator can read and program
all Intermec Intellitag(R) RFID tags.
"With the Sabre 1555, ADC customers don't have to invest in two distinct
sets of equipment to enjoy the advantages of both bar code and RFID tag
technology," said Dan Bodnar, Intermec group manager. "By combining
technologies into a single unit and offering standard serial or USB
connectivity to a variety of portable and fixed terminals, this solution is
the most flexible and cost-effective way to use the best technology for any
given ADC situation."
The lightweight (16 ounces) scanner is ergonomically designed for easy,
comfortable scanning over an entire shift. Its 40-character display, audio
feedback and single mode key make operation easy and reduce training time.
Intermec's Data Collection PC and Data Collection Network Computer product
lines support the 1555, offering the broadest line of RFID-enabled devices
available. Data collection devices include batch and wireless handheld,
vehicle mount, stationary and pen computers. In addition, Intermec provides
software tools and products that allow customers to create RFID applications
for the 1555 for a wide variety of fixed and portable applications.
The 1555 features a Lithium Ion removable battery that allows it to
operate with a variety of portable data terminals (PDT) without drawing power
from the PDT. Each battery pack has an integrated charger, eliminating the
need for a separate charger.
The 1555 also features EasySet(TM), Intermec's Windows-based scanner
configuration software that allows users to set up Intermec products by simply
scanning a series of bar codes. In off-line mode, EasySet allows users to
easily construct and print a page of set-up bar codes that users scan to
configure one or more scanners. With EasySet, the scanner is up and running
in a matter of minutes. In addition, the scanner can be reconfigured in real
time by the host, giving the user total control.
The Sabre 1555 is part of a new line of RFID products, including readers,
printers and PC cards, recently introduced by Intermec. As part of its
strategy to offer solutions, not single components, Intermec has announced a
range of Intellitag products that will provide a system-wide data capture
solution. Intermec's RFID products can be fully integrated, support multiple
frequencies, complement legacy systems, and provide interconnectivity with
Intermec's family of automated data collection products.
