DALLAS, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight Services, Inc., a
leading independent provider of quality aviation services, announced that its
European subsidiary, SFS, recently won a contract to provide cargo services
for American Airlines in Rome, Italy.
SFS, a leading European cargo handler, operates a cargo-handling network
throughout major gateways including: Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly),
Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Madrid and Barcelona, Frankfurt, Brussels,
and London Heathrow.
SFS began its inaugural service at Rome's Fiumicino Airport on June 2,
2000. The company, SFS Italia, is responsible for inbound/outbound
documentation for American Airlines' daily B767-300 flights to and from
Chicago. Because of the strong export market for Italian products in the
United States, the outbound traffic on these flights averages 15,000 pounds
daily. "This is the first step of development in Italy, including our
expansion in Milan, that will help better position SFS in serving the airlines
we currently handle," said Olivier Bijaoui, senior vice president
international and cargo worldwide.
"We feel privileged that American Airlines has chosen Worldwide to provide
documentation services for the company's daily flight into Rome. The addition
of Rome to our portfolio of locations strengthens our overall global growth
strategy and serves as an endorsement from American Airlines of Worldwide's
ability as a quality aviation services provider," said Peter Pappas, chairman
& CEO of Worldwide Flight Services.
