Raytheon Receives $75 Million Contract Award for HARM Production

TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company
(NYSE: RTNA; RTNB) has been awarded a $75 million fixed-price U. S. Navy
contract to produce 272 guidance sections for the AGM-88C High Speed
Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM).
The guidance sections will be used to upgrade B versions of HARM in the
Navy's inventory to the C version of the missile, which provides improved
performance against newer generation surface-to-air missile (SAM) radar
systems. The upgraded missiles will help replace the HARMs expended by the
Navy during Operation Allied Force in Kosovo.
HARM is a joint U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force program designed to suppress
or destroy SAM radars and radar-directed air defense artillery systems.
Continued hardware and software upgrades have allowed HARM to stay abreast of
the advancing radar threat.
Guidance section production will be performed at Raytheon's Missile
Systems business unit in Tucson and is expected to be complete by July 2004.
"This is a significant award to Raytheon because it is the first HARM
production contract since the program moved to Tucson from Lewisville, Texas,"
said Charles S. Ross, Raytheon vice president of the Strike Weapons product
line. "The re-start of the production line also allows us to solidify pending
international sales of HARM."
A supersonic, extended range, strike missile, HARM has protected U.S. and
allied aircraft in Libya, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Operation Desert Fox and more
recently in Kosovo operations. HARM is operational on a variety of U.S. Navy,
Air Force and Marine Corps aircraft and the aircraft of six international
customers.
The contracting agency is the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River,
Md.
