Scios Appoints Jane A. Moffitt Vice President, Regulatory Affairs And Michael A. Crockett Director, Project Management

    SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Scios Inc. (Nasdaq: SCIO)
announced today the appointment of Jane A. Moffitt to the newly created
position of Vice President, Regulatory Affairs. The Company also announced
that Michael Crockett, who until recently directed the regulatory function at
Scios focused on achieving FDA approval of its lead product, Natrecor(R)
(nesiritide), has been promoted to the newly-created position of Director,
Project Management.
    As members of the corporate management committee, Ms. Moffitt will oversee
all aspects of the Company's regulatory operations and Mr. Crockett will
organize and oversee the Company's various development projects to optimally
meet aggressive corporate objectives and timelines.

senior management team as we expand our product development activities beyond
Natrecor," said Richard B. Brewer, president and chief executive officer of
Scios. "They will play an integral role in our efforts to expand the use and
indications of Natrecor through additional clinical trials, and to develop our
other pipeline products, such as SCIO-469, our proprietary p-38 kinase
inhibitor for rheumatoid arthritis entering Phase II trials late this year."
    Ms. Moffitt has extensive regulatory and product development experience in
drug, medical device and biological products.  In her previous position with
Cygnus, Inc., a medical device company, she served as Vice President,
Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. Prior to Cygnus, Ms. Moffitt ran her
own consulting business, advising numerous medical device and biotechnology
companies on regulatory affairs and quality assurance. Before that, she served
as Vice President, Worldwide Regulatory Affairs, at Collagen Corporation and
as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance at Amsco International
Inc. in Pittsburgh. She came to Amsco from Allergan, Inc., one of the world's
leading ophthalmology companies, where she was Assistant General Counsel and
Director of Regulatory Affairs.
    Ms. Moffitt is a member of the California and Pennsylvania Bar
Associations. She is also a member of the Regulatory Affairs Professional
Society. Ms. Moffitt has also served as a member of the board of directors and
as chair of the board of the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society.
    She received her B.S. degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and
her J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law. She earned her LL.M. in Trade
Regulation from the New York University School of Law through the Food & Drug
Law Institute Fellowship Program.
    Mr. Crockett joined Scios in 1997 and since that time has been primarily
responsible for all regulatory affairs activities related to Natrecor. He came
to Scios from Genentech Inc., where he worked for more than a decade. During
that time, he served in a variety of managerial positions in regulatory and
manufacturing operations supporting the clinical development and
commercialization of its leading products:  Protropin(R) (somatrem for
injection) and Nutropin(R) (somatropin for injection) human growth hormone;
Activase(R) (alteplase, recombinant); Pulmozyme(R) (dornase alfa); and
Actimmune(R) (Interferon gamma-1b). He received his B.S. degree in
biochemistry and his B.A. degree in philosophy from St. Mary's College of
California.
