LAS VEGAS, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The world of gaming has dramatically
changed for the better, and the Gaming Standards Association (GSA) is at the
forefront of the change. At this year's Global Gaming Expo (G2E), GSA will
conduct live demonstrations of its groundbreaking Best-of-Breed (BOB), System-
to-System (S2S) and GDS protocol standards in action, demonstrating to expo
attendees how the gaming world has advanced with the new standards.
G2E takes place October 5-7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and GSA
will conduct the demonstrations in its booth #73 on the main expo floor each
day of the trade show. For complete details on the show and the exciting
promotions and member sponsored giveaways planned, visit GSA's G2E event page
on the website, http://www.gamingstandards.com.
Prior to the show's opening, GSA will participate in three key conferences
on October 4 at the G2E Training and Development Institute. The first session,
"A Technical Overview of GSA's BOB and S2S Standards and Tool Kits," explains
the technical aspects and requirements of BOB and S2S, highlights the current
work on the BOB Tool Kit and discusses possible migration strategies. The
second, "The Value and Impact of Industry Standards on Business," plainly
discusses the importance of standards to the industry and to the bottom line.
The third will focus on "The Business Benefits and Possibilities of GSA's BOB
Standard." It will provide a key operator perspective on the issue.
GSA Board Chairman Gregg Solomon said, "This is an exciting time in the
gaming industry. Standards truly have the potential to revolutionize the very
nature of the business, and the demonstrations and conferences will be vital
to communicating the potential standards hold."
BOB is a worldwide protocol that ensures secure communication between
gaming devices and gaming systems by relying on existing best of breed
protocols in standard technology, namely TCP/IP and XML -- essentially broad-
band communication protocols that are widely in use today. At its most basic
level, BOB defines the application layer -- what messages gaming machines are
sending to gaming systems.
BOB Committee Co-chair and Principal Engineer at WMS Gaming Dale Buchholz
said, "Using simulators, we will demonstrate the value that the BOB messaging
protocol brings to casino operators. The simulators will show that BOB is
ready for product development and will be of tremendous use to manufacturers
in product development. Above all, the demonstration will clearly show that we
have reached the point of moving BOB into the gaming market."
S2S runs parallel to BOB, picking up where BOB leaves off. S2S creates a
standard where gaming and non-gaming systems from across the casino/hotel can
interface, collect and communicate player information across the entire
property, including table games, slots, marketing, hotel, food and beverage,
and more. S2S eliminates current expensive barriers to entry, as well as
barriers to exit, by relying on existing industry standards, such as TCP/IP
and XML, and transport technologies such as Ethernet.
"S2S will be demonstrating how communications between a peripheral device
(a redemption kiosk in this case) and a host using the S2S protocol provides
value to casino operators. This demonstration will prove that S2S is ready for
use out in the field and that it offers 'Plug-n-Play' capability to those
operators, manufacturers and vendors who feel that standards will benefit the
Gaming Industry. The headaches surrounding custom and proprietary interfaces
will soon be a thing of the past; there will be no more 3rd party finger
pointing, which in the big picture will help operators strengthening their
relationships with vendors and manufacturers, and thus allow the operator to
concentrate on what really counts; satisfying their guests and improving their
margins," according to S2S Committee Chair, Dave Nehra, Division Director,
Information Technology at The Mandalay Resort Group.
