Analytical Laboratory (CAL), a division of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc.
(ECD Ovonics) (Nasdaq: ENER), today announced that it has accomplished yet
another milestone of quality assurance specifically designed for
laboratories. CAL was granted ISO 17025 accreditation as of September 20,
2006. In January 2005, the laboratory attained ISO 9001:2000 certification.
"This new level of certification signifies that the Central Analytical
Laboratory has undergone the arduous task of demonstrating and ensuring the
laboratory's technical competence, as well as its continued commitment to
quality," said Robert C. Stempel, ECD Ovonics Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer.
After achieving ISO 9001:2000 certification, the laboratory took the
additional steps necessary to complete the requirements for ISO 17025. In
2005, CAL became available to external companies required to employ ISO-
certified laboratories for their testing needs. However, this new
accreditation will open the door for companies demanding the highest level
of technical competence and quality for a testing facility.
CAL specializes in materials characterization for the determination of
physical and chemical properties, failure analysis, and quality assurance
to all industries. The group has been in operation since 1960 as an
in-house technical and analytical support facility for ECD Ovonics and its
subsidiaries. Dr. Benjamin Chao is the director of the Central Analytical
Laboratory.
