New Features Boost Analytic Solutions on Windows NT; Advanced Support for
Real-time Data Analysis; Improvements in Administrative Management
LOS GATOS, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Red Brick(R) Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: REDB) today announced the availability of Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5,
a major upgrade to its industry-leading relational database management server
(RDBMS) component of Red Brick DecisionScape(SM). Red Brick DecisionScape is
Red Brick's comprehensive, integrated environment of products, services,
methodology and partnerships designed to provide successful decision support
solutions.
Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5 adds new functionality to enable more
productivity in a Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R)-based decision support
environment while providing transparent scalability from Windows NT to UNIX
for customers and partners developing high-performance analytic solutions. In
addition, it offers new features to improve real-time analysis of data through
data loading and administrative enhancements.
"Red Brick continues to innovate in technology to support our customers
and partners who require the ability to grow their systems, data and users
while having continuous access to real-time data in their decision support
environments," said Ron Barale, vice president of Platform Products Group at
Red Brick. "Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5's enhanced parallelism in a NT
environment helps users quickly and cost-effectively implement a Red Brick
solution and then deploy it to a distributed or an enterprise system without
changing design. The new features in this product are designed to support the
production and use of analytic applications in our customers' data warehousing
environments, while still requiring only a minimum of administration."
Paragren Technologies Uses Red Brick Warehouse for Customer Relationship
Marketing Analytic Solutions
Paragren Technologies, Inc. of Reston, VA develops enterprise-wide,
high-performance decision support solutions for marketers in various
industries who demand the ability to discover, establish and grow profitable,
one-to-one customer relationships. Paragren's One-By-One(R) suite of
enterprise marketing applications are built on Red Brick Warehouse to produce
industrial-strength relationship marketing solutions in vertical markets such
as communications, insurance and financial services, packaged goods, energy
and government.
"Red Brick's enhancements to Red Brick Warehouse for query-priority
concurrency and improved Windows NT support can help our clients achieve
cost-efficient, yet high-performance analytic solutions for complex data,"
said Dan Lackner, chief operating officer at Paragren. "Our One-By-One suite
of marketing applications is designed to empower marketers with tens of
millions of customers to execute effective acquisition, expansion and
retention strategies. Our clients who wish to maintain the cost-effectiveness
of a Windows NT computing environment but who need the power and scalability
of a production-strength UNIX system can benefit from using Red Brick
Warehouse 5.1.5 to power their Paragren analytic applications."
Sharp System Products, Inc. of Japan Supports Red Brick Warehouse
Sharp System Products, Inc. (SSP) is a Red Brick reseller and systems
integrator for data warehousing solutions in the Japanese market. SSP
provides system hardware, information devices and network products produced by
Sharp Corporation. The company provides system and software solutions for
distribution, medical and educational businesses.
"Over the past years, Japanese businesses have relied heavily on Windows
NT computing solutions," said Mr. Mori, executive vice president of Sharp
System Products. "Our partnership with Red Brick enables us to provide an
integrated application solution between the head office and shops of our
clients, which assures further growth in our systems solution business for the
distribution and service industries.
"We recognize the value of data warehousing as our clients' businesses
grow, but the barrier to entry in a typical UNIX data warehousing environment
has been the cost. Red Brick's data warehousing solutions based on Windows NT
offer the performance of a UNIX solution at a reasonable entry cost, and offer
the added benefit of being able to scale as users needs' grow."
Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5 Enhancements
Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5 improves support for analytic applications
through real-time data access, increased support for Windows NT, and advanced
administrative features.
Real-time Data Access
Red Brick's unique query-priority concurrency technology (see related
announcement dated June 29, 1998) enables a continuous flow of data, which can
be timed by the administrator, into the data warehouse without affecting the
query response times of business analysts using the system. This gives
businesses that rely on frequently updated data, such as stock markets,
financial services and Internet-related commerce, the ability to perform deep
and complex analysis on refreshed data at any time throughout a business day.
Improved Windows NT Support
Red Brick has added major enhancements to Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5 that
support Windows NT-based data warehousing environments, including intelligent
parallelism through multi-threading, and industry-leading backup and restore
functionality designed for Windows NT users. Red Brick Warehouse 5.1 is
compatible with the Microsoft(R) BackOffice(R) family. The new parallel
features in Red Brick Warehouse help users optimize all query, load and
management functions in a NT environment, speeding performance and throughput
on historically difficult requests, such as ad hoc, complex queries and large
data loads.
Key features include:
* Parallel query processing, comparable to parallelism in Red Brick's UNIX
versions
* Parallel loader support, which enables concurrent index building, data
conversion and referential integrity checks as data is loaded into a
data warehouse
* SQL-BackTrack(TM) for Red Brick Warehouse on Windows NT, which offers
all the same rich backup and restore features as available in comparable
UNIX versions of SQL-BackTrack for Red Brick Warehouse
Administrative Management Improvements
Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.5 offers additional features to help manage
administrative functions in a data warehousing environment. These features
are now available in both UNIX and Windows NT versions of the product.
Key features include:
* Advances to Red Brick Warehouse Administrator(TM), including graphical
representation of query plans and the ability to graphically view and
manage query-priority concurrency and the Red Brick Vista(TM) aggregate
advisor and navigation system
* Parallel REORG, which parallelizes the tasks required in Red Brick
Warehouse to build or rebuild an index, resulting in dramatically faster
index build performance
* Partial Index REORG by Segment, which offers multiple options in
reorganizing a subset of the segments belonging to an index instead of
the entire index
* Deferred Index Build Option, which gives administrators the option of
creating an index without populating it at time of creation
