Automatic Power-Saving Function Significantly Reduces Power Consumption in
Idle-State Serial Ports
MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sipex Corporation
(OTC: SIPX.PK) today announced two new advanced RS-232 transceivers, the
SP3244E and SP3245E. These devices are the first to incorporate the Auto
On-line(R) Plus feature. Auto On-line(R) Plus is an advanced power saving
function for standard RS-232 transceivers. A device equipped with this
feature will automatically enter a 1uA low-power mode if idle for longer
than 30 seconds, and automatically wakes up if it detects activity on its
driver or receiver inputs. This will significantly reduce power consumption
in systems where the serial port remains in an idle state. It requires no
intervention or modifications to device drivers or software.
"Lowering power consumption is very important to consumer applications,
particularly those that operate from battery power or that need to meet
Energy Star(R) or other environmental standards," said George Dixon,
Director of Interface Marketing at Sipex. "Sipex's innovations in
power-saving technology and leadership in offering lead-free RoHS-compliant
products are clear signs of the Company's commitment to environmentally
conscious programs."
The SP3244E operates up to 250kb/s data rates, while keeping driver
outputs slew-controlled to less than 30V/us. The SP3245E is a high-speed
serial device capable of up to 1Mbaud/s data rate. Both devices contain
three drivers, five receivers, plus an additional non-inverted receiver
output. These transceivers implement all the signals needed for a standard
PC or terminal (DTE) serial port. Driver outputs and receiver inputs are
equipped with built-in ESD protection up to +/-15kV (IEC air-gap method).
These transceivers generate full RS-232/V.28 compliant driver outputs from
a single 3.3V or 5V supply voltage using Sipex's patented intelligent
charge pump technology (U.S. patent #5,306,954).
Pricing and Availability
The SP3244E and SP3245E are currently available in SSOP-28 and TSSOP-28
Pb-free packaging in temperature grades of 0degC to +70degC commercial
grade and -40degC to +85degC industrial grade. A QFN-32 package will also
be available shortly. The SP3244E is priced at $0.95 in 10k quantities. The
SP3245E is priced at $1.05 in 10k quantities. Datasheets additional support
documentation, and samples ordering can be found at http://www.sipex.com .
