IUB also streamlines other elements to expedite process
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interstate Power
and Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:
LNT), indicated today that the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has rescheduled
its ratemaking principles hearings related to IPL's proposed Sutherland
Generating Station Unit 4 from October 6, 2008 to December 1, 2008. The
change allows the Iowa Office of Consumer Advocate and other interveners
additional time to analyze filings made by IPL on September 12, 2008, which
responded to the IUB's request for additional information and updated the
cost estimate of the project.

"We expect the change in the IUB ratemaking hearing schedule will not
significantly impact our plans to begin construction of the Sutherland
Generating Station Unit 4 in the first quarter of 2009," states Tom Aller,
President-IPL. "Our company recently submitted updated information on load
forecasts and operational and financial models that are a part of this
ratemaking principles proceeding. That information further confirms our
case as to why we believe Sutherland Generating Station Unit 4 is in the
best interest of our customers, partners and Iowa. While we anxiously await
the opportunity to further discuss our plans for Sutherland Generating
Station Unit 4, we respect the IUB's decision to reschedule and appreciate
their efforts to expedite the process."
As part of the change in the hearing schedule, the IUB also streamlined
the timing of other elements of the docket in an effort to expedite the
process as much as possible. IPL expects an IUB decision on the ratemaking
principles during the first quarter of 2009.
Iowa statute requires the IUB to issue a ruling on ratemaking
principles that are to be applicable for any baseload generating facility
over 300 megawatts. Ratemaking principles define how construction costs
will be recovered in utility rates throughout the life of the generating
facility.
IPL received the IUB's written approval of the Sutherland Generating
Station Unit 4's siting application in August 2008. Approval of both the
siting application and ratemaking principles application are necessary
before construction begins. IPL also expects a decision on its Sutherland
Generating Station Unit 4 air permit application from the Iowa Department
of Natural Resources by the end of 2008 or early 2009.
