SAN DIEGO, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Trega Biosciences, Inc.
(Nasdaq: TRGA) today announced the addition of Patrick J. Sinko, Ph.D. to
corporate management; the addition of Scriptgen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as a
Chem.Folio(TM) customer; and the addition of a new discovery program for the
treatment of sexual dysfunction.
Patrick J. Sinko, Ph.D. has joined Trega as Vice President of Discovery
Technology. Dr. Sinko will oversee the development of the IDEA(TM) Predictive
Model as well as related assay development. Dr. Sinko has served as Chairman
of the Department of Pharmaceutics at Rutgers University since 1998 and is one
of the founders of NaviCyte, Inc., which was acquired by Trega last fall. Dr.
Sinko earned his B.S. in Pharmacy from Rutgers and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics
from the University of Michigan.
"We are delighted to have Pat join Trega," said Michael G. Grey, President
and CEO. "We highly value his skills and insights as an innovator in the
field of predictive ADME (Absorption, Metabolism, Distribution and Excretion)
modeling and look forward to his contribution to the further development of
IDEA. As we prepare to launch the IDEA absorption predictive model in the
fourth quarter of this year, Pat's team will focus on the development of the
IDEA metabolism predictive model, the first release of which is scheduled for
completion during mid-2000."
Trega also announced Scriptgen Pharmaceuticals as a new Chem.Folio(TM)
customer. Scriptgen will purchase compounds from Trega using the "diverse
bundles strategy", which provides a representative look at the library's
overall diversity. By using this strategy, Scriptgen will receive diverse,
quality chemical libraries with associated information to provide quick
feedback.
Trega announced its new discovery program focusing on sexual dysfunction.
This program has already progressed to the point of identifying potent
compounds utilizing Trega's proprietary discovery technologies, including
Chem.Folio(TM). "Trega's scientists have identified an interesting new
biological target for the treatment of this important condition," continued
Mr. Grey. "We are actively seeking a partner to work with us on identifying
improved products."
Trega Biosciences is focused on accelerating the process of drug discovery
from disease targets to clinical candidates by using small molecule
combinatorial chemistry, high throughput screening and predictive
bioinformatics to rapidly create novel drug candidates having greater chances
of clinical success. In combination with its wholly owned subsidiary,
NaviCyte, Trega offers integrated products and services spanning the drug
discovery process -- beginning with the synthesis of novel compounds to
delivery of uniquely qualified drug leads -- to the pharmaceutical and
biopharmaceutical industries. Trega also uses its drug discovery technologies
in its internal development programs, which are focused on discovering small
molecules acting on melanocortin receptors, which may be important in the
treatment of inflammatory and metabolic diseases.
