New Search and Downloading Capacities Are Features Of New Website for National Technical Information Service

         Individuals or Organizations Seeking Information and Reports
                              On Diverse Topics

    SPRINGFIELD, Va., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Locating and retrieving
scientific, technical, engineering and business related material just got
easier, thanks to the new website and Virtual Library Initiative of the
National Technical Information Service (NTIS).  NTIS maintains and
disseminates the nation's largest collection of scientific, technical,
engineering and related business information produced by or for hundreds of
U.S. government agencies and worldwide sources.  The collection contains
nearly 3 million documents spanning more than 350 subject areas and many of
those items will now be available directly from the website.  Approximately
1000 new items are added each week and many are available only through NTIS.
All records are abstracted, indexed and cataloged in the NTIS Database.
    Visitors to the website will find that NTIS offers "One Search.  One
Source.  One Solution." for their information needs and now, for the first
time, users can download the most recent items in the collection.  The Virtual
Library Initiative allows site users of http://www.ntis.gov to:

    * Execute free searches of the database of items from 1990 to the present

    * Link to the full text of documents on the web for free

    * Download any document in electronic format. Up to 20 pages may be
      downloaded free; downloading more than 21 pages will cost $8.95 per
      report.

    * Access an array of multimedia and computer products from the National
      Audiovisual Center.

    The research reports available from NTIS includes cutting edge information
