MATTHEWS, N.C., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Family Dollar Stores,
Inc. (NYSE: FDO) announced today the promotion of seven associates: Bruce E.
Barkus, Charles S. Gibson, Ramesh Chikkala, Cynthia L. Dunham, Timothy A.
Matz, Geno Coradini and Christopher A. White.
Bruce E. Barkus has been promoted to the newly created position of
Executive Vice President - Store Operations. Mr. Barkus joined Family Dollar
as Vice President of Store Operations in August 1999, and was promoted to
Senior Vice President - Store Operations in June, 2000.
Charles S. Gibson has been promoted to the newly created position of
Executive Vice President - Distribution and Logistics. Mr. Gibson was
employed by the Company in September 1997 as Vice President of Logistics, and
was promoted in October 1999 to Senior Vice President of Distribution and
Logistics.
Ramesh Chikkala has been promoted to Vice President - Store Process
Improvement. Mr. Chikkala joined Family Dollar in April 2001 as Regional Vice
President - Store Process Improvement, bringing over 14 years of engineering
experience in the retail industry.
Cynthia L. Dunham has been promoted to Vice President - General
Merchandise Manager: Softlines. Ms. Dunham's career at Family Dollar began in
April 1994 as an Assistant Buyer. She was promoted to Buyer in February 1996,
and assumed responsibility for several additional apparel departments in 2000.
In October 2001, she was promoted to Divisional Vice President - Merchandising
as her role within our apparel divisions was again expanded.
Timothy A. Matz has been promoted to Vice President - General Merchandise
Manager: Hardlines. Mr. Matz joined Family Dollar in 1996 as a buyer of
automotive and hardware. He assumed additional responsibilities in December
1999, and was then promoted to Divisional Vice President in October 2001. Mr.
Matz is responsible for Seasonal, Paper, Automotive, Hardware, Toys and
Electronics departments.
Geno Coradini has been promoted to Divisional Vice President - Real
Estate. Mr. Coradini began his career with Family Dollar as a Real Estate
Manager in May 1999. In his new position, Geno will continue to direct the
relocation and expansion of existing Family Dollar Stores and will also assume
responsibilities for lease renewals and new Real Estate Manager training.
Christopher A. White has been promoted to Divisional Vice President - Tax.
Mr. White joined Family Dollar in September 2000 as Corporate Tax Manager. In
September of 2001, Mr. White was promoted to Corporate Tax Director. Mr.
White's responsibilities include overseeing Family Dollar's entire tax
function, including income, sales and property tax, as well as managing our
license function.
