IGT Debuts SuperSAS at G2E

Protocol Described as Next Step Toward Server Based Gaming

RENO, Nev., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- IGT announced today that it will be
releasing details of its new SuperSAS protocol next week at Global Gaming Expo
in Las Vegas. The SuperSAS protocol is an Ethernet extension of its current
SAS protocol, which will allow support for advanced features such as server
based gaming, remote floor configuration, and centralized high speed machine
and peripheral program downloads.
"This is a key step in bringing Server Based Gaming to a reality," said
Richard Pennington, Executive Vice President, Product Development. "SuperSAS
will be the building block for the casino floor of the future. It encompasses
the latest in security, encryption, and network technology."
SuperSAS is an evolution of the technology used in SAS 6.01 and is the
next step in the 18 years of development for the SAS protocol. "SuperSAS
takes a proven feature set that is already working in the field, and expands
it for the future," said Ali Saffari, Senior Vice President, Firmware
Engineering. "SuperSAS will be beneficial to operators and regulators, as
well as the industry at large, just as the SAS protocol has been in the past."
IGT will be providing all of its more than 140 current SAS licensees with
evaluation copies of the SuperSAS protocol to allow for review and industry
comment. Access to the protocol is available to all existing and future SAS
protocol licensees at no cost. Additionally, IGT will be scheduling industry
forums to gain input and insight into the needs of all licensed gaming
manufacturers, operators, and regulators to ensure that the protocol is usable
by all SAS licensees. Finally, to ease the transition to the SuperSAS
protocol, IGT plans to provide conformance, simulation and test tools to all
SuperSAS protocol licensees at no cost.
