MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- City of Miami Beach Mayor
Neisen Kasdin, has named Cox Interactive Media's (CIM) SoFla.com
(http://www.sofla.com) as the City's official Tourism web site. The announcement was
made Wednesday, at a special ceremony at the Colony Theater on Lincoln Road,
Miami Beach.
"The Miami Beach community is more than an international tourist
destination -- it is a vibrant community and home to tens of thousands of
people. The lifeblood of every community is the communication and interaction
between its people, and we need to make every effort to help people improve or
develop this dialogue. SoFla.com, our new official web site is definitely a
step in the right direction!" said Kasdin.
During the ceremony, Mayor Kasdin presented representatives from SoFla.com
with the key to the City of Miami Beach. In return, the Mayor was presented
with the SoFla.com Golden Mouse -- of the computer variety that is! The
ceremony also marked the official start of SoFla.com's first ever Cyber Guide
Casting Call, as hundreds of wanna-be's waited patiently for their turn to
audition for the much coveted role of SoFla.com Cyber Guide.
"One way to ensure we capture the energy and get the real inside scoop on
South Beach happenings is to have real South Beach people - or Cyber Guides -
introduce the site and give their own unique perspective on what's hot and
what's not!" said Mary Kate Leming, Brand Manager at SoFla.com.
The Casting Call was devised to help SoFla.com's producers seek out as
many fresh and fascinating personalities involved in the Miami Beach scene as
possible. Every day of the year, visitors to the SoFla.com site are greeted
by a local Miami Beach personality - called a Cyber Guide. Those lucky enough
to be chosen for this much coveted role are then responsible for steering
people through the site's latest news, music, film and restaurant reviews,
entertainment news and state of the art interactive features.
"SoFla.com transports the energy, attitude and excitement of South Beach
directly to people's desktops!" continued Leming. "Whether people click on
from their PC at work or at home, we want SoFla.com to become the only place
they go to keep up with what's happening on South Beach."
To successfully achieve this goal, the SoFla.com site boasts state-of-the-
art features such as: "How Do I Get There?" that gives users instant access to
area maps, as well as street-by-street directions from their own address to
local restaurants or bars; "Daily Dose" that allows users to pick out their
favorite SoFla.com features and have them e-mailed directly to their PC every
day; "Take A Peek" that uses beach cams to provide real time views of Ocean
Drive, and a whole host of chat rooms, games and irreverent interactive
surveys that keep users coming back for more!
Drawing on the expertise and community knowledge of other Cox-owned media
in the South Florida market, including WHQT/HOT 105 FM and WFLC/Coast 97.3 FM,
as well as important site content partners like Ocean Drive Magazine, The
South Florida Gourmet and Justsurfit - the web cam experts, staff at the City
of Miami Beach and CIM are confident of SoFla.com's appeal.
