New Appointments Address Leadership Roles in Execution of Company Growth
Plans; Anthony Layzell Promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and
Marketing; Lawrence Howard Appointed Vice President of U.S. Sales
LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Red Brick(R) Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: REDB), The Data Warehouse Company(R), today announced executive
changes that are expected to further assist the company as it extends its
industry-leading product line in the transition to a data warehouse solutions-
oriented company. The executive changes include the promotion of Anthony
Layzell to senior vice president of sales and marketing and the appointment of
Lawrence Howard to vice president of U.S. sales, effective immediately. Alec
Wilson, vice president of worldwide sales for Red Brick, has resigned to
pursue other interests.

strengthening our executive management skill to implement our plans in terms
of growth and market leadership," said Chris Erickson, president and CEO of

position was essential to the execution of these plans.

Lawrence Howard, 54, will be responsible for Red Brick's U.S. sales
organization, reporting to Anthony Layzell. Formerly president and CEO of
Orbitsoft, a year 2000 company, Mr. Howard brings strong leadership and
industry expertise to Red Brick. Prior to Orbitsoft, Mr. Howard was senior
vice president of sales and marketing for Unify and vice president of sales
and marketing for Texas Instruments Information Technology Group. Prior to
Texas Instruments, he had a successful sales and marketing tenure at IBM
Corporation.
In his new role, Anthony Layzell will be responsible for Red Brick's
marketing strategy and its execution, as well as sales, marketing, business
development and international operations. Mr. Layzell brings extensive
international and domestic management experience from executive sales and
marketing roles at Andersen Consulting, Texas Instruments and GE.
Red Brick plans to announce the results of its fourth quarter ended
December 31, 1997 on January 15th, 1998, and anticipates that revenues and
earnings per share for the fourth quarter will be within the range of
analysts' expectations.
