Reflects Intermec's Commitment to Support Industry Standards
EVERETT, Wash., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermec Technologies Corp. today
announced it has joined the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), a
new organization dedicated to certifying interoperability for IEEE 802.11 High
Rate Wireless LAN products. WECA is charged with promoting the High Rate
standard that allows for between 1 Mbps and 11 Mbps radio transmissions, for
enterprise, small business and home markets.
"We are pleased to have an industry leader such as Intermec join WECA,"
said WECA Director Angela Champness. "As a strong proponent of 802.11 High
Rate, we are confident that Intermec will help WECA achieve our goal of
accelerating the adoption of wireless LANs in key market segments."
As a new member, Intermec may submit products to WECA's independent test
lab for interoperability certification. This interoperatbility certification
process demonstrates the ability of equipment from different manufacturers to
work together within the same wireless local area network (WLAN), improving
the integrity of wireless networks for mobile network users. Once certified,
the product may display WECA's seal of approval.
"Intermec has been committed to providing our customers interoperable
wireless LAN solutions since 1995," said Michael Jones, a group product
manager in Intermec's Local Area Systems Division. "Our commitment to support
standards is based on our conviction that our customers will directly benefit
from interoperability by reduced equipment costs, higher levels of system
compatibility and easier maintenance. Our participation in WECA will expand
our commitment to interoperability to include IEEE 802.11 High Rate based
wireless LAN solutions."
Intermec's WECA membership is one of several recent announcements about
its expanding selection of wireless LAN solutions, including a new
2101 Universal Office Access Point, T2415 Hand-held Data Collection Network
Computer, 5020 Hand-held Data Collection PC, and 5055 Vehicle Mount Data
Collection PC.
About the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance
The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) is a non-profit
organization formed in 1999 to certify interoperability of IEEE 802.11 High
Rate wireless LAN products and to promote that standard for enterprise, small
business, public and home markets. WECA has defined a test suite against which
member products are tested to certify that they are interoperable with other
vendor products. Testing will be conducted by an independent lab. Products
that successfully pass are granted the WECA seal of interoperability.
Membership is open to all companies actively promoting IEEE 802.11 High
Rate as the primary standard for 2450 MHz wireless LAN products. For more
