SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Scios Inc. (Nasdaq: SCIO)
announced today that Richard B. Brewer, the Company's President and
Chief Executive Officer, is undergoing outpatient medical therapy for
early-stage multiple myeloma.
Upon the advice and approval of his team of specialists, Mr. Brewer has
been performing, and will continue to perform, his regular duties at Scios.
He continues to work closely with Scios' senior management team to advance the
Company's aggressive commercial plan for its flagship product, Natrecor(R)
(nesiritide), and development plans for its promising product pipeline. The
pipeline includes additional indications for Natrecor; SCIO-469, a novel oral
p-38 kinase inhibitor for rheumatoid arthritis; and a new research project to
be announced in the fourth quarter of this year.
Mr. Brewer will receive outpatient treatment for five days each month
through the end of this year. His physicians are encouraged by his response
to therapy, and indicate that his prognosis is very good.
