Raytheon Awarded U.S. Air Force APG-70 Radar Repair Contract Potentially Worth $23 million

RESTON, Va., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been
awarded a contract with a potential value of $23 million, including options,
to repair APG-70 radar units and modules. The firm fixed-price indefinite
delivery, indefinite quantity follow-on contract awarded by the U.S. Air Force
includes a $5 million, one-year base period and four one-year options.
Raytheon Technical Services Company (RTSC) will repair domestic APG-70
radar units and modules and serve as a second source for Warner Robins Air
Force Logistics Center's radar repairs. Repairs will primarily be performed in
Indianapolis, with some testing in El Segundo, Calif., Andover, Mass., and
Forest, Miss.
"We are pleased that the customer recognizes RTSC's capabilities and has
awarded us a follow-on contract," said Bryan J. Even, a vice president of
Raytheon Company and president of Raytheon Technical Services Company. "We
welcome the opportunity to perform an increasing percentage of all APG-70
repairs."
    Raytheon's APG-70 is a multi-mode radar with air-to-air and air-to-surface
capabilities. It is employed on the F-15E, I and S aircraft as well as on late
model F-15C, D and E. One feature of the system is that after a sweep of a
target area, the image on the screen can be frozen while the radar itself is
turned off to avoid detection. The APG-70 can produce near photo quality
images of the ground by using synthetic aperture radar technology.
The APG-70 radar system has been modified for use on the U.S. Special
Operations Forces AC-130U Specter gunship, an air-to-ground platform equipped
with a 105mm howitzer and 25mm and 40 mm cannons. Future plans include an
upgrade to the existing Raytheon Software Development Facility to support both
the APQ-180 and APG-70 radar configurations.
RTSC, a subsidiary of Raytheon Company, provides technical, scientific and
professional services for defense, federal and commercial customers worldwide.
It specializes in management, operation and maintenance of customer
facilities, equipment and systems; logistics and life-cycle support; overhaul
and repair depot operations; engineering, logistics and personnel support;
