Aware to Demonstrate VDSL2 at Broadband World Forum Europe

BEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq:
AWRE), a worldwide leader and innovator of broadband intellectual property,
today announced that it will be featuring its StratiPHY3(TM) silicon
intellectual property specifically developed for the ITU VDSL2 standard in a
live demonstration at Broadband World Forum Europe in Madrid October 3 - 6,
2005. This demonstration will operate at the maximum 30MHz VDSL2 bandwidth
and showcase an end-to-end standard-compliant 100 Mbps connection using
Aware's StratiPHY3 customer premise equipment (CPE) and central office (CO)
intellectual property (IP) platforms.
Building on the success of Aware's StratiPHY2+(TM) intellectual property,
which has shipped more than one million ADSL2+ ports worldwide, Aware's
StratiPHY3 addresses the global market requirements for VDSL2 as well as
ADSL2/ADSL2+ and legacy ADSL on a single platform. StratiPHY3 is the
industry's most advanced standard-compliant solution for silicon manufacturers
looking to supply silicon for VDSL2 deployments while maintaining connectivity
and interoperability in legacy ADSL and ADSL2/2+ modes of operation. It is a
complete physical instantiation of Aware's DSL IP in the form of a digital
chip which supports all CO and CPE VDSL2 bandplans, framing modes, and
configurations. It is also fully compliant with all ADSL, ADSL2/2+ and VDSL1
features and functionality, and is the latest addition to the StratiPHY(TM)
line of fully functional, manufacturable silicon IP offerings from Aware.

    About VDSL2
VDSL2 (G.993.2), consented by the ITU in May 2005, provides the long-reach
capabilities of ADSL2+ while increasing the high data rates over the copper
network on shorter loops (100 Mbps up to 1,000 feet). The underlying DMT
technology is the same as that is in ADSL and ADSL2+, providing spectral
compatibility with existing services and enabling backward-interoperability
with ADSL.
VDSL2 includes many of the features and functionality contained in ADSL2+,
such as advanced diagnostics, a common management interface, and the ability
to maximize the use of bandwidth and bit rate, making it an ideal access
technology for delivering video. In addition, VDSL2 supports new features
such as pre-emption, short packet support, impulse noise protection, loop
diagnostics and dual latency. It has numerous configuration profiles and its
frequency bandwidth has increased from 1.1 and 2.2 MHz for ADSL and ADSL2+
respectively with configuration options of 8.5MHz, 12MHz, 17.7MHz and 30 MHz
to meet regional network and service requirements.
Also at Broadband World Forum Europe, Aware's Vice President of Marketing,
Peter LeBlanc, will be chairing a session titled, "The Future of Broadband:
Silicon Advances for Video Services," on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 5:30
p.m.
