Aleris's Demetriou Elected Chairman of Aluminum Association Executive Committee

    BEACHWOOD, Ohio, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aleris International,
Inc. (NYSE: ARS) announced today that Steven J. Demetriou, the Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer, of Aleris International, Inc., has been named
Chairman of the Aluminum Association's Executive Committee. Mr. Demetriou has
been Chairman and CEO of Aleris since December 9, 2004 following the merger of
Commonwealth Industries, Inc. and IMCO Recycling Inc.
    Prior to the merger, Mr. Demetriou was President and CEO at Commonwealth
Industries.
    Mr. Demetriou's career highlights include serving as President and CEO of
Noveon, Inc. a global producer of specialty chemicals for consumer and
industrial applications and Executive Vice President of IMC Global Inc., a
producer and distributor of crop nutrients and animal feed ingredients.
    Before that he held leadership positions with Cytec Industries Inc., and
managerial positions at Exxon Mobil Corporation.
    Mr. Demetriou received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Tufts
University.
    The Aluminum Association, based in Arlington, Virginia, represents the
U.S. and foreign-based primary producers of aluminum, recyclers, producers of
semi-fabricated products, as well as suppliers to the industry.  Member
companies operate about 200 plants in the United States and Canada and many
