Bioject Expands Contract With the Centers for Disease Control for Global Immunization Device

                 Development Contract for a Two-Year Period

    PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bioject Medical
Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: BJCT), a leading developer of needle-free drug
delivery systems, announced today that it has received a Phase II Small
Business Innovation Research contract from the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention ("CDC") for further development of a Disposable Cartridge
Jet Injection device (DCJI) for safer, needle-free global immunizations.
    In 2005, the Company received Phase I funding for the initial prototype
system. In Phase I, the Company designed and built a spring-powered
prototype and proved its performance for intramuscular, subcutaneous and
intradermal injections. The Phase II funding is for a two-year period and
is for improvements in product design and the continued development of the
device and its unique single use auto-disable cartridge.
