CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermec Technologies Corp.
introduces the sleek new Norand(R) 6642 mobile computing system, the thinnest,
lightest and most powerful Windows(R) 98 pen tablet on the market.
The compact Norand 6642 weighs just 2.2 pounds and measures only 3/4 of an
inch thick, making it light enough to carry all day. Whether in an airport,
customer board room or at the home office, the Norand 6642 can be used to
retrieve large databases and powerful multi-media presentations, making it the
perfect decision-support and presentation sales tool.
Equipped with an 8.4" SVGA color LCD with touch screen display, the Norand
6642's clear resolution and bright picture displays dynamic presentations to
individuals and small groups. A built-in video output port connects to a
projector for large group presentations. The powerful 266 MHz Celeron(R)
processor, 4.3 GB hard disk drive, and up to 160 MB of RAM keep applications
moving. An integrated 56K V.90 modem provides easy connectivity, even when
mobile.
"The Norand 6642's ultra lightweight form-factor and unparalleled
processing speed make it more suitable than a laptop for busy mobile workers
who need to make on-the-spot decisions," said Mike Colwell, vice president of
marketing for Intermec's Norand Mobile Systems Division. "This computer
delivers the same level of computing power and flexibility as a laptop, in a
design that is more practical for thinking on your feet."
The Norand 6642's true portability is further enhanced by its power
system. A large-capacity internal Lithium ION battery pack and optional
snap-on external expansion pack allow continuous operation throughout the
entire workday. A Type II PC card slot accommodates solid state data storage
and other PC card technologies. Universal Serial Bus and IrDA interface
provides maximum configurability and easy system expansion.
Preinstalled with Windows(R) 98 software, the Norand 6642 can be
customized to suit vertical application requirements. Applications can be
developed either by Intermec's software development team or provided by one of
its premier solutions partners. The Norand 6642 is also available as a
bundled solution with Intermec's VirtualCooler(TM) software. VirtualCooler is
a category management sales tool that provides for the data collection needs
of frontline beverage sale representatives.
Consultation and implementation provided by Enterprise Integration
Services (EIS) from Intermec also are part of the 6642 solution. After an
application has been developed, tested and released, EIS can custom load each
mobile computer with the correct configuration, providing a system that is
"out of the box" ready.
The Norand 6642 is now available for order, with production shipments in
December.
