                                Of Story Ideas

EVERETT, Wash., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermec Technologies Corp. issued
the following:

You know the story. Too much to see and too much to do in too little time.
Too many people pulling you in every direction. So here's a rundown of what
Intermec Technologies Corp. has planned for SCANTECH '99 in Chicago, Ill.,
October 5-7, at one of the automatic data collection industry's premier
conferences. It all is built around our SCANTECH message -- Intermec: Moving
Data at the Speed of Change. Our virtual press kit, http://www.intermec.com/newsroom,
is designed to help you chronicle that change, offering complete coverage of
company news, as well as new products, services and initiatives, as they are
announced between now and the end of SCANTECH '99 on Oct. 7.

    SCANTECH breaking news:
-- 11 a.m. Oct. 5 -- Press conference: Meet new Intermec President Bob
O'Malley, as he discusses Intermec's new direction and emphasis.
O'Malley, who comes to Intermec from the world of IT, has an outsider's
fresh view of the ADC world and a reformer's commitment to action.
       (Press room)
    -- 1 p.m. Oct. 5 -- Press conference: All Intermec's new products, all at
once. No need to run from one end of the show floor to the other to
find the industry's latest innovations. They're here, along with the
engineers and designers who make them run. (Press room)
-- 5 p.m. Oct. 5 -- Welcome Reception at Mobile Enterprise Data Collection
Developers Conference. An opportunity to meet leaders in ADC's
mobile/wireless environment, from manufacturers and operating system
companies to ADC VARs and software developers.

    SCANTECH story ideas:
-- Beyond bar codes -- Imagine checking out a shopping basket of items
with one pass through a scanner rather than item by item; keeping track
of a supply chain component with one interactive data collection tag
from shipping dock to end user; recording real time data collection
information without worrying about line of sight or proximity to bar
code labels. RFID (radio frequency) technology allows companies to do
all this and more, offering complete supply chain visibility, from
start to finish. And Intermec is the company with the RFID technology
and know-how to launch this next information revolution now. Visit
Intermec's RFID demonstration room, Demo Room #7, to see real RFID
       ready now. (Demo Room #7)
-- First RFID item management standard -- The ADC industry now has the
first standard for RFID item management, adopted Sept. 24, 1999.
Although it is only days old, all Intermec RFID-related products
       already meet this new standard.
-- Happy Birthday, Code 39 -- Twenty-five years ago, in an old abandoned
grocery story that was Intermec's early home, Intermec founder David
Allais huddled with representatives of a worldwide aerospace
manufacturer to figure a better way to keep track of the company's
parts and part numbers. The bar code language birthed at that meeting
became Code 39, the world's most widely accepted bar code symbology.
While more sophisticated languages have come and gone, Intermec pauses
this month to honor Code 39, the series of oddly shaped stripes that
revolutionized how the world does business, and prepares to loudly
reclaim industry leadership with a broad array of RFID products, the
next generation of automatic data collection technologies. Hook up with
Intermec inventor Sprague Ackley at SCANTECH to relive ADC's vivid
early days or call 425-348-2799 to schedule a telephone interview.
-- i-Commerce -- In an initiative designed to set the pace for ADC
e-commerce, Intermec teams with Trilogy Software to launch i-Commerce,
a packet of on-line services designed to make Intermec the easiest
company in the industry to do business with.
-- Supply chain in action -- Visit Intermec at Booth #417 to see a
simulated supply chain at work. No boring display of company hype here.
See Intermec at work helping customer companies save time, increase
       efficiency and cut costs.
