Speeds Software Updates, Administration
EVERETT, Wash., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, web-enabled software
development tool for automated data collection applications promises to
dramatically reduce the time it takes to write, install and administer
software for Intermec data collection computers and terminals.
Using Intermec's new dcBrowser(TM), developers can write a single, web
server-based application to control multiple types of data collection devices.
Software updates and administrative tasks are performed instantly via the
Internet, lowering development and support costs and increasing service
quality to users. dcBrowser is part of Intermec's plan to integrate web
capabilities throughout its entire Enterprise Data Collection(TM) line of
products.
Customers with web-based IT management systems that use desktop browsers
to distribute information to legacy systems are now able to fully integrate
Intermec's latest data collection product lines into their mix.
"dcBrowser lets us access an intranet server with the customer's existing
hand-held devices or leverage new technology. The choice and pace of change is
up to the customer," said Daniel Worden, president and chief executive, WNS
Inc.
Using dcBrowser, customers are able to dynamically create HTML pages using
data residing in such databases as Oracle, Informix, Sybase, Microsoft SQL and
Access. In addition, a wide variety of web server development platforms are
available, including Windows NT, Windows 95, OS/2, AIX, Sun Solaris and other
UNIX systems.
"Intermec's dcBrowser is another leading technology development in the
data collection industry," said Mike Jones, Intermec group product manager.
"Customers will be able to develop mission critical applications using
state-of-the-art web development tools for integration into web-based
application architectures."
The dcBrowser capabilities will prove to be attractive to customers in any
industry who would like to move to web-based e-commerce applications. The
Intermec dcBrowser enables developers to write data collection applications
using advanced tools and integrate them into web-based architectures, slashing
development time and lowering costs. Due to its flexibility, the dcBrowser
greatly reduces application distribution and support costs. Developers write
only one web server application to connect with any standard browser and then
connect with the same application on multiple types of Intermec data
collection devices, performing updates instantly.
