First of Its Kind to Meet Only RFID Item Management Standard
CHICAGO, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermec Technologies Corp. today
introduced its new Intellitag(R) 501XP data collection printer, which can
simultaneously print bar codes, text and graphics, as well as read and write
to 2450 MHz Intellitag RFID (radio frequency identification) tags.
The 501XP is the first of its kind to meet the only approved RFID item
management standard, ANS NCITS 256-1999. With the addition of the Intellitag
501XP printer to its family of RFID products, Intermec offers a comprehensive
range of RFID products, from labels to PC cards to readers.
Companies can now track goods through an entire supply chain with a single
tag that supports both bar code and RFID data capture technologies. The
Intellitag 501XP's ability to incorporate bar codes for traditional data
capture, text and graphics for consumer branding and product information, as
well as RFID Intellitag technology for increased throughput without the
traditional line-of-sight requirement, is ideal for such areas as retail,
airline or supply chain synchronization.
"When used with Intermec's new Intellitag media -- with RFID tags embedded
within bar code label stock -- the Intellitag 501XP printer lets customers add
the power of RFID to their existing ADC systems in a single step," said Jeff
Menken, Intermec senior product manager, New Printing Technologies.
The Intellitag 501XP is the latest model in the EasyCoder(TM) series of
rugged, fast, continuous use printers. The EasyCoder series' aluminum and
steel housing can withstand the dust, heat and rough treatment of an
industrial environment. It can print up to twelve-inches per second, with
300 dots-per-inch resolution.
Included with the Intellitag 501XP is Intermec's Fingerprint(TM), a robust
and adaptable software programming language that allows companies to manage
bar code data with exceptional ease. It can control not only the label printer
but also applications. With Fingerprint, it is possible to establish and
tailor communications between host systems and Intermec's label printers,
eliminating the need for an intermediary hardware device, such as a PC. Using
Fingerprint, the Intellitag 501XP can control an entire labeling system,
receiving and sending signals to mechanical arms, electronic eyes, conveyor
belts and more.
The Intellitag 501XP, which features open slot architecture, is engineered
to grow with a customer's needs. It can be easily upgraded with new flashware
or option cards, such as the Intellitag interface, to use the latest printing
technologies. And it is compatible with Intermec's complete line of
custom-made intelligent media products, which are designed to meet a
customer's specific requirements and provide optimal operation in the working
environment.
