Statement From Nationwide Regarding the Scruggs Lawsuit

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Nationwide has not yet reviewed the
lawsuit filed today by Mr. Scruggs.
We are deeply disappointed with the reported allegations that seek to
throw out well established flood exclusions contained in policy language.
There is no ambiguity in the language in question. These policies clearly
state: "Hurricane coverage does not include loss caused by flooding,
including but not limited to flooding resulting from high tides or storm
surges."
If these long recognized and relied upon exclusions were to be deemed null
and void, it would have a significant negative impact on insurance
policyholders across the country.
Nationwide will continue to investigate each claim presented to it on its
own merits before making any coverage decisions.
