Will Demonstrate New Products at SCANTECH '99
FORT MYERS, Fla., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Metanetics Corporation, a
subsidiary of Telxon Corporation (Nasdaq: TLXN), announced today that it will
demonstrate new additions to its expanding product line of bar code readers at
SCANTECH '99, which is being held in Chicago, Illinois, October 5-7. The new
products include a 1.3-million pixel color reader, and a CMOS VGA 2D reader
for low cost applications.
"Metanetics' IR-M MegaPixel Color ImageReader is a totally new type of
product, filling a gap between an image reader and a high resolution digital
camera," said Jim Bagley, Metanetics' vice president of marketing. "The IR-88
opens a new market for image readers in applications where laser readers have
dominated in the past due to lower cost."
In addition to supporting the full feature set of its earlier IR-2000
ImageReader, including the new Uniform Code Council Reduced Size Symbology and
Composite Symbology, the IR-M MegaPixel Color ImageReader is ideally suited
for applications where color image capture is a critical function, such as
insurance claim adjusting and law enforcement. The IR-88 CMOS VGA ImageReader
provides 2D imaging at a list price below $900, opening many new applications
for this advanced technology, including point-of-sale and OEM applications for
low-cost integrated terminals. CMOS is a silicon technology which greatly
reduces the cost and power consumption of an image sensor.
The Metanetics IR-2000 hand held image reader is a market leader in a new
class of automatic identification products used for bar code reading,
verification, and image acquisition. Unlike laser-based readers, an image
reader uses camera technology and has no moving parts. The IR-2000
automatically discriminates between all major bar code symbologies, including
the 2D symbologies, DataMatrix, PDF-417, MaxiCode, QR Code, US Postal Service
Postnet, SuperCode, Aztec Code, VeriCode, DataGlyph, and the new UCC
RSS-14/Composite Code.
A major advantage of an image reader is that it can read a bar code from
all directions. It also captures signatures and digital photographs and
supports optical character recognition (OCR). Customers are using the IR-2000
for computer chip product identification, mail and parcel tracking. For retail
checkout, it replaces digitizer pads for collection of point-of-sale
signatures. Customers can even capture an image of an entire document, such
as a check, credit card slip, or prescription form.
Metanetics Corporation researches, designs, develops and manufactures
portable imaging technologies used for reading two-dimensional bar codes and
other data collection applications. Its innovative hardware and software
supports applications which literally redefine the meaning of automatic
identification. Its executive, marketing and sales offices are located in Fort
Myers, Florida; its engineering and manufacturing facilities are located in
the Seattle, Washington area. Metanetics' global web site address is:
