Sun-Netscape Alliance Forms Strategic Relationships to Expand Capabilities Of Online Billing Offering for Telcos, Service Providers

Relationships with Portal, Solect, Vantive and SAIC to Enable Tighter
Integration Between Alliance iPlanet BillerXpert and Backend Systems
                   And Increased Customer Care Capabilities

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Reaffirming its position as
a leading provider of electronic bill presentment and payment applications,
the Sun-Netscape Alliance is one of the first solutions vendors to announce
new strategic relationships with best of breed software and service providers
to offer an end to end, tightly integrated offering that spans backend billing
and rating, bill presentment and payment and customer service and care
targeted at Telcos and Service Providers. These new relationships with Portal
Software Inc., Solect, Vantive Corp. and Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC) will enable Alliance iPlanet BillerXpert customers to
streamline their electronic billing processes, generate new revenue
opportunities and achieve significant cost-savings.
Today's announcement marks the continuation of the Alliance's aggressive
three-tiered initiative dubbed "Full/Speed/Ahead," (go to this URL to read
press release issued on April 26
http://www.iplanet.com/alliance/press_room/press_releases/pr15.html ). The
new relationships with Portal, Solect, Vantive and SAIC will expand the
iPlanet electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) solution with core
applications and integration services leading to faster customer EBPP
deployments and stronger business for the biller.
"The relationship with the Sun-Netscape Alliance will provide SAIC with an
enhanced solution that we can offer to our customer care and billing clients,"
said Jonathan Reinhold, vice president in the commercial technology sector at
SAIC. "SAIC is looking forward to working with the Alliance to help drive
adoption of these enhanced electronic billing capabilities to raise the
value-proposition of Internet bill presentment and payment for IP service
providers."
Through its relationships with Portal and Solect, the Alliance will help
enable customers to achieve a tighter integration between iPlanet BillerXpert
for EBPP and their billing and rating engines. This direct connection between
iPlanet BillerXpert and the billing and rating technologies leverages XML to
help eliminate the costly process of breaking down complex print image data
and realizes a significant cost-savings to telcos and service providers.
Additionally the cost of creating and maintaining complex parsing maps is
greatly reduced, and consumers now have the tools to take advantage of
customer self service features.
iPlanet BillerXpert's extensibility also enables a clean connection from
existing and back-end systems to front office customer care and support
applications, creating a stronger end-to-end solution for Alliance customers.
By linking the electronic bills, which are a frequent source of customer
support calls, from iPlanet BillerXpert to Vantive's customer care solutions,
consumers are a few clicks away from resolving their customer care issues
completely online.
"Telcos and service providers are looking for solutions that take the next
step in EBPP," said Daphne Carmeli, vice president of market development and
strategic partnerships for the Sun-Netscape Alliance. "With this
announcement, the Alliance is one of the first to market with a solution that
looks beyond simply placing a bill online, to create an efficient, closed loop
system that drives down billing and customer care costs and increases customer
loyalty through self service."
Currently, the Alliance offers iPlanet BillerXpert as part of its
portfolio of production-ready e-commerce applications. iPlanet BillerXpert is
a comprehensive Internet bill presentment and payment (IBPP) solution that
allows personalized statement presentation and set notifications of new bills,
captures customer information and conducts interactive marketing campaigns
through event-based relationship management, user-activity tracking and
targeted email. The application also supports multiple payment types
including credit cards and checks.
