MCKINNEY, Texas, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company
(NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) has been awarded a U.S. Army contract for TOW Improved
Target Acquisition System (ITAS) Contractor Logistics Support (CLS). The
initial funded value of the contract exceeds $4 million for the first year of
a two-year effort. If all options are exercised, the total potential value of
the contract is $13 million.
CLS includes the total management of spares, repairs and information
necessary to support the TOW ITAS system while maintaining an operational
readiness exceeding 90 percent. This CLS contract is the first phase of an
eight-year agreement established between Raytheon Electronic Systems, El
Segundo, Calif., and the Close Combat Anti-Armor Weapons Systems Project
Office, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
The ITAS system is a 480 x 4 second-generation forward-looking infrared
targeting system. ITAS allows improved detection and engagement of heavy
armored vehicles at stand-off ranges significantly greater than the currently
fielded first-generation FLIR systems now in use.
The TOW ITAS CLS program is one of 10 Army-approved pilot CLS programs,
and this agreement marks the first opportunity for the company to provide
"cradle-to-grave" support of a weapons system. "The ITAS is the Pathfinder
CLS program for the U.S. Army, and plays a vital role in achieving the
objective of a lower unit operating cost," said Colin Schottlaender, vice
president and general manager, Tactical Systems.
The work will be performed by Raytheon's Tactical Systems business unit in
McKinney, Texas, with support at various army locations provided by Raytheon
Technical Services Company, Vienna, Va. Initial work will begin with the 82nd
Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C.
The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., is the
contracting agency.
