BT Joins Forces With WhiteSand Consulting to Target US Gaming Sector

    LAS VEGAS, Oct 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- British Telecommunications plc
(BT) (NYSE: BTY), a global IT and networking services company, today announced
that it is to partner with leading gaming and hospitality consulting firm
WhiteSand Consulting to provide both consultancy and delivery capabilities to
US gaming companies.
    The announcement was made at Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the pre-eminent
show for the worldwide gaming-entertainment industry, and builds on BT's
strategy to provide services to US gaming companies locally and
internationally. WhiteSand and BT will be jointly participating in various
events at the show.
    The partnership will combine WhiteSand's 20 years of consultancy
experience in the gaming industry with BT's technology and global networking
capabilities at both a local and global level.
    WhiteSand Consulting is a team of diversified, experienced and
knowledgeable gaming veterans who provide a variety of services to the gaming
sector, including competitive analysis & research, feasibility studies and
technology consulting. Clients include Bellagio, Borgata, Caesars, Foxwoods,
Harrah's, Hyatt Gaming, MGM MIRAGE, Showboat, Tropicana and Wynn Las Vegas.
    BT provides products and services to the gaming sector which focus on
improving the customer experience and gaming companies' operational
effectiveness and include secure wireless technology solutions -- including
Wi-Fi, security and global networking solutions.

    As well as providing wireless, security, and local and global networking
solutions, BT provides a comprehensive investment package for gaming companies
looking to invest in the UK through their BT Global Inward Investment team.
    The UK Department of Culture is planning to bring legislation before
Parliament, expected to become law in April 2005, which will see a complete
overhaul of the UK gaming industry. Multi-billion US$ investment is expected
to flow into UK casino development in the five years following deregulation.
    In support of its increasing involvement in the US Gaming industry, BT
also announced today a partnership with Switch Communications Group. BT will
purchase hosting space within the Nevada NAP(TM) facility, managed by Switch,
in order to support the growing networking services needs of local and global
gaming companies.
    Organized by the American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions, Global
Gaming Expo (G2E) takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 5-7, 2004. Up to
15,000 delegates and 650 exhibiting companies are expected to attend. BT is at
booth 6355 for the duration of the show.
