22nd Annual - 2004 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure(R); 'Step By Step We All Make a Difference'

               Record Crowd Expected - Over 35,000 Participants

    DALLAS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dallas Mayor Laura Miller and UP Mayor
Blackie Holmes will join 2004 Komen Dallas Race Chair Maggie Cole and
NorthPark Center President Nancy Nasher to welcome over 35,000 women, men and
children to participate in the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure(R).  Over
2,500 breast cancer survivors will be honored for their courageous battle
against this life-threatening disease.  Mayor Laura Miller will lead the
Survivor Parade.
    This landmark Dallas event, which is held annually at NorthPark Center to
promote awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer, is an
emotionally charged event and an opportunity for thousands, whether running or
walking, to join in the fight against breast cancer.  Since the first Komen
Race held in Dallas in 1983, the Komen Dallas Race has grown from
800 participants to the southwest's largest 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run.
    NEW THIS YEAR -- Special Community Teams: African Americans for the Cure,
Asians for the Cure, and Hispanics for the Cure.  All team participants and
Online Friends for the Cure(R) donors are entered to win fabulous door prizes.
    Easy online registration is still available!  Register online by Oct 12 at
http://www.komen-dallas.org .  On-site registration will be available at
NorthPark center from Oct. 13 up to and including Race morning.
    Special guest Katrina Elam, Universal South recording artist, singer and
songwriter will perform on stage.
    Last year, the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure(R) raised more than
$1.4 million dollars.  Up to 75 percent of the net funds raised remains in
Dallas County for education, screening and treatment for the underserved women
in Dallas County.  A minimum of 25 percent of the net supports the Komen
Foundation Award and Research Grant Program.
    Help with traffic by carpooling, ride your bike or be DART SMART!  Tune
into 99.5 the Wolf on Race morning for traffic updates and FOX 4 will carry
live coverage from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Race morning.
