Dean of the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology to be Honored

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minnesota High Tech Association
(MHTA) and Minnesota Technology, Inc. (MTI) today announced that H. Ted Davis,
Dean of the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology, will be honored
with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Tekne Awards on Tuesday, Nov.
9. Davis announced earlier this year that he would step down at the end of
2004 to return to teaching and research. Now in its fifth year, the Tekne
Awards acknowledge the technology innovators and leaders who have made lasting
contributions to enhancing the quality of life and competitiveness of
Minnesota.
Davis was chosen for his years of innovation and leadership in research
and education. As dean of the state's premier college of science, engineering
and technology, Davis helped create the University of Minnesota's Digital
Technology Center and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He also has
launched new master's degree programs in software engineering and
infrastructural systems engineering. These initiatives, under Davis'
guidance, have had a tremendous impact on Minnesota's technology-related
economy. The impact of his leadership has been recognized by businesses
throughout Minnesota and around the globe.

company); and former Medtronic Chairman and CEO, William W. George.
