Sponsored by McDonald's and The Dish Network
NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Selecciones, the world's best-selling
Spanish-language magazine, celebrated its 35th anniversary yesterday with
the introduction of its first-ever "Generation Latino: Hispanic Teens Who
Are Changing the World" event. The pages of the magazine's October issue
were brought to life at a special awards luncheon and media event at
Bongo's Cuban Café in Miami honoring seven Hispanic teens for their
talents, accomplishments and unsurpassed contributions to their
communities. Today's most prominent newsmakers -- TV personalities,
musicians, and political leaders -- were also on-hand to present each teen
with an award and deliver their own personal stories of obstacles,
successes and achievements. Platinum event sponsor McDonald's presented
each teen with a $2,500 scholarship, reinforcing its commitment to
Hispanics and higher education. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez
launched the program by proclaiming, Wednesday, October 4, 2006 as
"Generation Latino Day." Talented singer and songwriter Shalim concluded
the program with a show-stopping musical performance.
