MATTHEWS, N.C., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Family Dollar Stores,
Inc. (NYSE: FDO), the fast growing North Carolina-based discount store chain,
reports opening 20 stores during the five-week period ended October 4, 2003.
With these additional stores, as of October 4, 2003, the Company operated
5,041 stores.
The 20 newest store locations are in the following states: 4 in Colorado;
2 each in Arizona, Michigan and Utah; 1 each in Florida, Georgia, Illinois,
Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and
South Carolina.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. now operates stores in 43 states ranging as far
northwest as North Dakota, northeast to Maine, southeast to Florida, and
southwest to Arizona.
