And Appearance in Columbus Day Parade
Performances October 8 - 11 Part of Columbus Week Celebrations
NEW YORK, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Italian Army Band will make its first
appearances in the United States from October 8 through October 11 as part of
the Columbus Citizens Foundation's Columbus Week Celebrations.
The free concerts (see below) will feature Italian and American marches
and arrangements of operatic, classical and popular music that will ring
through majestic Grand Central Terminal and rise up between the towering
limestone buildings of Rockefeller Center's Channel Garden over the weekend
preceding Columbus Day. The band will also play at Felician College in Lodi,
New Jersey and in the 60th Columbus Day Parade.
Composed of 75 musicians wearing the historical uniform of the Italian
Army, the band's virtuosi members perform under the direction of Maestro
Fulvio Creux. Born in 1956 at Pont St. Martin, near Aoste, Fulvio Creux holds
degrees from the music academies of Turin and Milan, where he studied choral
direction, composition, conducting, and band instrumentation.
Established in 1964 as the successor to several smaller military
ensembles, the Italian Army Band is based in Rome. The band has performed in
recent years in La Scala in Milan, the Verdi Theater in Trieste, and the
Bellini Theater in Catania as well as in France, Egypt and Austria. In one of
its several appearances at the annual Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto,
Italy, the band was accompanied by Placido Domingo in honor of Maestro
Giancarlo Menotti's 90th birthday.
The band's free concerts will take place as follows:
Oct. 8: Main Hall, Grand Central Terminal, 8:30 PM
Oct. 9: Felician College, Lodi, New Jersey, 6:30 PM
Oct. 10: Rockefeller Center's Channel Garden, 3:30 PM

The Italian Army Band is part of a European tradition of military bands
whose highly trained musicians constitute a virtuoso ensemble that performs a
broad range of musical literature. While sharing affinities with military
bands of the United States, the tradition is closer to that of a Pops
orchestra.
The Italian Army Band's repertory for the US concerts includes works by
Verdi, Sousa and Gershwin.
