Reno Air Reports Strong September Traffic

RENO, Nev., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Reno Air, Inc. (Nasdaq: RENO; PCX: RNO)
announced that its September 1998 load factor was 63.1%, a 1.1% improvement
over September 1997 load factor of 62.4%.
"We are pleased with September traffic results particularly since we also
experienced a record September yield," said Reno Air Senior Vice President
Marketing and Planning Joanne Smith. "We are delighted that our initiatives
are producing positive results. With outstanding operational and financial
performance, improvements in customer service and a focus on higher yielding
business markets, we expect to report an outstanding third quarter."
Reno Air's September load factor increased even though the airline
introduced new markets and had only minimal benefits from the labor disputes
at Northwest and Air Canada. On Sept. 15, Reno Air began nonstop service
between John Wayne/Orange County and Seattle and between Colorado Springs and
Los Angeles. Reno Air is offering double American Airlines AAdvantage Miles
on its new Orange County to Seattle service until Dec. 15, 1998. In addition,
Reno Air introduced Burbank to San Jose service on October 1. Reno Air is
likewise offering double AAdvantage Miles on this new route until December 15,
1998. "Our new markets are performing well," added Smith. "October traffic
also appears to be strong."
Available Seat Miles for September 1998 were 375,232,938, a 7.5% decline
over September 1997. Revenue Passenger Miles fell by a smaller amount, 6%, to
236,922,975. The airline had previously announced a fleet downsizing in
excess of 10%, and the discontinuation of unprofitable service in several
non-essential cities earlier in the year.
