Students
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minnesota High Technology
Foundation (MHTF) and Research, Inc. today announced the recipients for three
scholarships named in honor of the visionaries who established Research, Inc.
This year's three recipients, Paul Cronin, Jeffrey Sipple and Noobtsaa Philip
Vang, will each receive $1,000 scholarships to be applied toward their work at
the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology.
Established by Research, Inc. to honor three former employees -- Ed
Abramson, Ken Anderson and Jim Anderson -- the $1,000 scholarships are
annually awarded to undergraduate students attending the Institute of
Technology.
"These scholarships are given to gifted individuals who will serve as the
technology leaders of tomorrow," said Kate Rubin, president of the Minnesota
High Tech Association and board member of the Minnesota High Technology
Foundation. "It's gratifying to recognize hard working, deserving young
people with such passion for careers in technology."
This year's Ed Abramson Scholarship, which is awarded to students with
financial need, goes to Noobtsaa Philip Vang. A graduate of North High School
in North St. Paul, Minn., Vang is currently a sophomore majoring in industrial
engineering at the Institute of Technology. He intends to proceed to graduate
or medical school after completing his undergraduate degree.
"I'm honored to be the recipient of this important scholarship," Vang
said. "As someone interested in pursuing a career in technology, I'm grateful
that funding opportunities exist to help me achieve this goal."
The Ken Anderson and Jim Anderson scholarships, which recognize students
who have demonstrated academic excellence, will be awarded this year to Paul
Cronin and Jeffrey Siple, respectively.
Cronin, the recipient of this year's Ken Anderson Scholarship, is a
sophomore majoring both in mechanical engineering at the Institute of
Technology as well as entrepreneurial studies at the Carlson School of
Management. A graduate of Lourdes High School in Rochester, Minn., Cronin has
an interest in mechanical engineering and business. As an amateur inventor,
he is interested in forming his own technology-related company. Siple, the
recipient of this year's Jim Anderson Scholarship, is a sophomore majoring in
mechanical engineering. He has an interest in cutting-edge consumer products
and intends to pursue graduate school.
Scholarship nominations were received from the Office of Student Affairs
at the Institute of Technology.
