- Ryder Technicians Earn Two Overall Awards and
Three Individual Skills Challenge Awards -
MIAMI, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a
global leader in transportation and supply chain management solutions, today
announced its technicians won two of the top three spots at the Technology &
Maintenance Council's National Technician Skills Competition --
TMCSuperTech2005. Second place was awarded to Matthew Van Zanten of Choctaw,
Okla., and Michael Bogard of Appleton, Wis. received third place.
"Ryder is proud of its technicians and the quality of workmanship they
provide to our customers," said Ryder Vice President of Maintenance Ty Cross.
"Matthew and Michael have proven themselves to be among the nation's best

Second-place winner Mr. Van Zanten has been a Ryder technician for more
than 10 years and works at the Company's Oklahoma City facility. He also
placed first in the hands-on Electrical Skills Challenge station in the
individual round.
Mr. Bogard, who placed third overall, has been a Ryder technician for more
than 30 years and works at the Company's Neenah, Wis. facility. He also
earned the top score in the written portion of the competition and placed
first in the hands-on Steering/Suspension Skills Challenge station in the
individual round.
Additionally, Ryder technician Kenneth Smith placed first in the Brakes
Skills Challenge station in the individual round. Mr. Smith has been with
Ryder for more than 15 years and works at the Company's Goldsboro, N.C.
facility.
The TMC SuperTech is an annual skills test designed to identify the
nation's top commercial vehicle technician. This industry-wide competition
tests technicians' diagnostic and problem-solving skills by having them
compete in a variety of troubleshooting tests during a two-day event. At this
year's inaugural event, contestants competed at eight workstations,
challenging their electrical, brake, HVAC, engine, steering, preventative
maintenance inspection, drive train and service information skills.
