Mallinckrodt's OxiClip PC 20 Pneumatic Conserver Provides Greater Mobility And Cost Savings for Respiratory Patients

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- As it continues to broaden its product
line in the growing home healthcare market, Mallinckrodt Inc. (NYSE: MKG) has
introduced its pneumatically-powered Puritan Bennett OxiClip(TM) PC 20 oxygen
conserver for patients needing a supplemental source of oxygen.
The small, lightweight OxiClip demand oxygen conserver can easily be worn
on a patient's belt, or even on a shirt pocket. A flexible supply line allows
maximum patient mobility up to 100 feet from the oxygen source without
compromising the conserver's sensitivity, trigger time or speed of delivery.
OxiClip can be used by most patients 24 hours a day.
The pneumatically-powered demand system opens when the patient inhales.
The system then delivers the prescribed flow of oxygen when the patient
inhales and blocks flow when the patient exhales, thereby saving oxygen that
otherwise would be wasted.
"Portability has been the hallmark of our design," said Gerald R. Mattys,
vice president, general manager of Mallinckrodt's Alternate Care business.
"State-of-the-art materials and design engineering have been used to create a
highly durable, yet easily carried package. OxiClip provides a cost-effective
healthcare solution by allowing patients to use only the amount of oxygen
needed as their requirements change. It should cut in half the number of home
deliveries for patients using continuous flow liquid oxygen."
The OxiClip has been designed with easily replaced flow control and
conserving modules to permit the equipment to stay current with future
enhancements in oxygen delivery. It is inexpensive to purchase and repair.
The OxiClip also offers other user benefits:

-- It is highly effective for both stationary liquid oxygen systems and
       high pressure portables.

-- The OxiClip can be powered by any 20-pounds-per-square-inch-gauge
(PSIG) oxygen source capable of flowing six liters per minute (LPM) or
       more.

-- Reversion to continuous flow is automatic in case of internal
       malfunction.
