Expert Review of Molecular Diagnostics Features Signet Laboratories, Inc. Nephroscreen(TM) in Recent Publication

Leading medical diagnostics/research company announced today Nephroscreen(TM)
article published in September issue of Expert review of Molecular Diagnostics

DEDHAM, Mass., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Signet Laboratories, Inc., a
leading medical diagnostics/research company specializing in the development
of monoclonal antibodies and diagnostic assays for cancer, infectious disease,
and neurodegenerative disease, today announced the publication of
"Nephroscreen(TM), a diagnostic test for predicting acute renal failure?" by
Marion Howard MD, PhD, MBA, in the September issue of Expert Review of
Molecular Diagnostics, a bi-monthly journal published by Future Drugs Ltd.
(5(5), 633-642 (2005).
The article, written by Marion Howard, an expert in the field, provides a
comprehensive perspective on the use of Nephroscreen(TM) as a diagnostic test
to predict renal failure. It explores key issues such as the yet unfulfilled
need for a diagnostic biomarker for acute renal failure (ARF) and
Nephroscreen's(TM) role in identifying ARF at its early onset.
In the USA in 2002, a reported 723,302 patients developed ARF,
encompassing as much as 5% of all hospitalized patients. Currently physicians
rely on diagnostic tests such as changes in serum creatinine which is an
assessment of the glomerular filtration rate to diagnose ARF. Although these
tests can determine the degree of kidney function lost, they are not warning
signs of the early onset of kidney injury. Nephroscreen(TM) is an RUO
diagnostic assay based on the detection of adenosine deaminase binding protein
(ABP), which is released from brush border epithelial cells into the urine as
a consequence of renal disease and damage to the proximal tubules. It detects
acute kidney damage days before serum creatinine rises, with the potential to
give physicians valuable time to intervene before kidney function is lost.

The Company was founded to continue the mission originally established at
CRL -- the early detection and recurrence monitoring of patients with cancer,
infectious disease, and neurodegenerative disease. Signet has developed
patented technology for diagnosis and recurrence monitoring and for risk
assessment of asymptomatic patients in these areas. For more than a decade,
the Company has aggressively maintained licensing and development programs,
which are responsible for its broad patent and intellectual estate.
