Banking Just Became Even More Convenient for National Bank of Commerce, Hillsborough Savings and CCB Customers in North and South Carolina

Successful System Conversion Completed Just Three Months After Merger

    DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ --
Just three months after completing its merger with Central Carolina Bank
(CCB), National Commerce Bancorporation (Nasdaq: NCBC) announced today that it
has already successfully converted 19 North Carolina branches of National Bank
of Commerce (NBC) and Hillsborough Savings Bank (HSB) into CCB's branch
operations platform. In addition, NBC and HSB locations donned the Central
Carolina Bank name for the first time since the merger was completed in July.
This means that NBC and HSB customers in North Carolina are already able
to take advantage of the enhanced services and benefits of CCB's upgraded
system. "We are pleased that we have been able to bring these tangible
benefits of our merged companies to our customers so quickly," said Scott
Edwards, chief administrative officer for NCBC. "This is only the beginning
of much more to come."
The conversions will translate into quicker and more efficient service as
a result of faster information access and the automation of many manual
processes. In addition, NBC and HSB customers will have access to an expanded
line of CCB products and services including check protection, brokerage, trust
and investment services. Other added benefits include access to more than
200 CCB branch locations throughout North and South Carolina, a much more
extensive ATM network and 7-day banking at CCB7 locations in Harris Teeters.
CCB customers will also benefit from an expanded network with access to
the 19 converted NBC and HSB locations in Cary, Apex, Greenville, Durham,
Raleigh, Garner, Greensboro, and Hillsborough.
According to Karen Thor, NCBC's chief information officer, "This has been
a very smooth conversion. CCB and NBC operated on a similar system. As part
of its Y2K effort, CCB had upgraded its mainframe and network. That is paying
dividends now, because CCB can support a much larger bank and an extensive
network."
The conversion also helps the former HSB locations operate more
efficiently by having all of its back office processing handled in one
centralized location in Durham. Previously it had been processed through
numerous third-party vendors as far away as Portland, Maine.
Central Carolina Bank, National Bank of Commerce and Hillsborough Savings
Bank are wholly owned subsidiaries of National Commerce Bancorporation, a
sales and marketing organization that delivers select financial and consulting
services through a national network of banking affiliates and non-banking
affiliates. As of June 30, 2000 NCBC had $16+ billion in assets and nearly
400 locations in nine Southeastern states. NCBC is headquartered in Memphis,
Tenn., and maintains operations headquarters in Durham, N.C.
