WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- A hotel giant renowned for its
style and aesthetics is offering the talents and "muscle" of more than 125 of
its executives and staff from the New York metropolitan area, their families
and friends during its volunteer activities with New York Cares at PS /MS 330.
As a part of the 9th Annual New York Cares Day on Saturday, Oct. 14,
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. will bring teams of volunteers from
its New York area hotel and corporate properties to complete a variety of
projects at the school. The team will work on 15 large cityscape murals, both
indoors and out. In addition, they will plant bulbs for perennial flowers,
improving the school's exterior.
New York Cares is mobilizing 10,000 caring New Yorkers who will volunteer
to give 110 New York City public schools a face-lift. Starwood's
participation in New York Cares Day is part of Starwood's national sponsorship
of CityCares, a network of volunteer service organizations. In addition to
New York, Starwood has participated in Serve-a-Thons in four other cities
including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Serve-a-Thons, which occur annually in CityCares' affiliate cities, are
day-long fundraising events where individuals, corporations, families, friends
and communities join together to make a powerful difference in the lives of
others. Thousands of volunteers in each city gather on one day to complete
hundreds of community service projects, including painting murals in
elementary schools, cleaning up playgrounds and public parks, visiting senior
citizens, providing food for the homeless and reading to children.
"Fundraising and community service are an integral part of our company's
mission, and this alliance with City Cares is an important one for us," says
Barry Sternlicht, chairman and chief executive officer for Starwood. "We know
the impact our volunteers can make on a community, and we're proud to be
providing more than 125 of our associates for this school beautification
program."
Starwood has completely transformed guestroom environments for the
business traveler through design and style, and hopes that by making schools
more aesthetically appealing, students will find them a better place to work
and learn.
