First FDA-Approved Biologic Therapy for Psoriasis Becomes First in Canada
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., and SAN DIEGO, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Biogen
Idec (Nasdaq: BIIB) today announced that Health Canada has authorized
AMEVIVE(R) (alefacept) for sale in Canada. AMEVIVE, the first biologic
approved for psoriasis in Canada, will be marketed for the treatment of
patients with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis who are candidates
for systemic therapy or phototherapy.

AMEVIVE became the first approved biologic therapy for the treatment of
moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis in adults when it was approved in
the United States in 2003.
