WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- PG Energy Services has received
an Interim License from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PPUC) to
become an electric generation supplier in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
During their monthly public meeting held on October 9, 1997, the Pennsylvania
Public Utility commissioners voted to approve an application by PG Energy
PowerPlus to furnish and supply electricity within the State.
    Thomas F. Karam, President and CEO of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc.,
(PEI), the parent company of PG Energy Services said, "We are very pleased
that our application was approved.  This license allows PG Energy PowerPlus to
participate as an electric supplier in this month's electric pilot program
where 5% of all electric customers will choose their electric supplier.  We
are confident that Customer Choice will provide electric customers with lower
electric costs and we are proud to be able to offer these customers reliable
service and savings through a familiar name with 140 years of utility
experience."
    Last week, PG Energy PowerPlus was formed from the alliance of PG Energy
Services, the nonregulated subsidiary of PEI, and CNG Energy Services of
Pittsburgh.  CNG Energy Services is one of the largest marketers of power in

gas in a 26 county territory in central and eastern Pennsylvania.
