WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Campaign for a 9/11 Independent
Commission, a coalition of 9/11 families' organizations, will hold a
candlelight vigil from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 15) in Lafayette
Park, directly across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. The families
are holding this event to urge President Bush to accept a plan for an
independent commission negotiated Thursday by leaders of the House and Senate
intelligence committees.
The plan was worked out by Senate Chairman Bob Graham (D-Fla.), House
Chairman Porter Goss (D-Fla.), Senate Ranking Minority Member Richard Shelby
(R-Ala.), and House Ranking Minority Member Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Within
hours of the deal, however, Vice President Dick Cheney called Rep. Goss and
told him to "keep negotiating." No progress has been made since.
The members of the Campaign for a 9/11 Independent Commission are Families
of September 11, September 11th Advocates, the Skyscraper Safety Campaign, and
Voices of September 11th.
